David Obeng Adane was born in Asakraka-Kwahu, in the Eastern Region of Ghana in 1992. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Arts (Ceramics), from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. David is also licensed professional teacher and has taught several courses in art across all levels in basic education in Ghana. He specialises in ceramic art, where he focuses on using clay to create earthenware pottery and ceramic sculptures.
David Obeng Adane’s journey into ceramics began during his first practical lessons in pottery in the first year at university. The feeling he felt in his palms whenever he touched clay coupled with the ease, he found in manipulating it into any form he desired, made him realise ceramic art as his preferred medium of expression.
For David Obeng Adane, the process of crafting a piece, from conceptualisation to final finish, is akin to a dialogue between the material and his inner thoughts. Each piece David creates, tells a unique story, reflecting personal experiences and broader societal themes. His works often explore themes of identity, cultural heritage, and human connection, drawing inspiration from my diverse background and the rich tapestry of traditions that have shaped his worldview. He uses slab and coiling hand forming techniques, as well as wheel forming to create pottery and sculpture. His works are characterised by intricate carvings and modelled features on both organic and regular forms that showcase a rich blend of traditional techniques and contemporary ideas. David has exhibited his works both in Ghana and Nigeria. He enjoys taking long walks in scenic natural environments during his leisure time. He currently lives and works in Accra, Ghana.
