My name is James Chege, a visual artist and photographer born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. In addition to my work in the visual arts, I am also known for my skills in camera operations, broadcasting, and multimedia creative work, including photo and video editing. My primary medium is acrylics on canvas, and I also work with pencil drawings. While I have not yet explored other media like oil paints, charcoal, spray paint, or markers, I am eager to expand my creative horizons in the future.
My interest in art began at a young age, with sketching and drawing since I was in preschool. Art has always been a means for me to express my creativity, emotions, and ideas. I see it as a way to connect with myself and others. Through my art, I explore a variety of themes, including emerging societal issues and personal experiences, often drawing from the environment around me. Whether through direct experiences or the stories shared through the internet, I find inspiration in the world’s complexities. I am constantly motivated to create work that speaks to the human condition and the connections that bind us all.
I have not received formal art education nor have I attended art school, making me entirely self-taught. My learning has been shaped by personal exploration, practice, and my deep passion for creativity. This self-driven approach has allowed me to develop a distinctive style and understanding of my art.
As a self-taught artist, I have not yet participated in major exhibitions or received formal accolades. However, my journey has been marked by the continuous exploration of new mediums and techniques. I am passionate about expanding my practice and sharing my work with a wider audience.
My work is driven by a desire to express emotions, ideas, and social issues, creating pieces that resonate with the viewer on a deeper level. I work primarily with acrylics on canvas and pencil drawings, but my practice is always evolving. Art, for me, is a tool for expression and communication—both personal and universal—and I use it to share stories that reflect the world I see and experience.
Through my art, I hope to inspire reflection and dialogue on the complexities of life. I view life through a creative frame, always seeking new perspectives and ways to communicate my experiences. My goal is to connect with others through my work and share stories that transcend the personal to the universal. By doing so, I hope to evoke emotions and provoke thought, creating art that resonates deeply with those who experience it.
