About the artist:

My name is Jephter Uzoma, and I am a self-taught visual artist based in Lagos, Nigeria, where I was born and raised. I’m best known for my figurative paintings, which delve into themes of identity, transformation, and human emotion, brought to life through bold linework and richly layered textures.

Art has been part of me for as long as I can remember. From childhood, I was drawn to the act of creating. It became my way of navigating the world, of expressing thoughts and emotions that words often failed to capture. Though I never received formal training, I’ve developed my practice through instinct, keen observation, and relentless dedication to my craft.

I view art as both a mirror and a language, one that reflects who we are, while offering a space to communicate the unspeakable. My work is deeply intuitive, often shaped by lived experience and an ongoing exploration of identity. Through each piece, I strive to spark connection, evoke emotion, and offer a moment of reflection for those who engage with it.

When I’m not in the studio, I enjoy immersing myself in literature, cinema, and the symbolism of fashion all of which subtly influence the visual narratives I create. These interests feed into my work, adding layers of meaning and cultural nuance.

As a featured artist on Afriartspace.com, I am proud to contribute a voice that is grounded in personal truth, cultural reflection, and creative evolution. My journey continues to be one of curiosity, storytelling, and expression, inviting others to see, feel, and reflect through the lens of contemporary African art.
