My name is Tawanda Elton Reza, and I am an emerging visual artist born in 1996. I work primarily with mixed media, using a combination of paint, layered fabrics, and cutting techniques to build textured, tactile surfaces on canvas. In addition to this, I explore printmaking on both paper and canvas, constantly experimenting with new materials and forms.
Growing up in an artistic family had a profound impact on my creative path. My father, a talented stone sculptor, specialised in intricate elephant carvings, and his dedication to craft and detail continues to inspire my own practice. Art has always felt natural to me, as if embedded in my very being. Much of what I create is shaped by my observations of the world around me, whether fleeting moments, recurring thoughts, or quiet reflections.
My work is often influenced by my dreams. I see them as vessels of symbolism and hidden meaning, and I enjoy translating them into visual narratives that can speak to something deeper within us. At its core, my art is about communication, sharing stories and ideas that I hope can positively impact others and provoke thought, healing, or inspiration.
I refined my skills at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe’s School of Visual Art and Design in Harare, where I was fortunate to learn under the guidance of established artists. That experience helped me expand my creative vocabulary, deepen my understanding of artistic traditions, and gain confidence through research and experimentation.
As a featured artist on Afriartspace.com, I’m proud to contribute to the evolving story of African contemporary art, bringing my unique voice, vision, and heritage into every piece I create.
