About the artist:

My name is Vanessa Boateng, and I am known for my intricate and distorted figures, centered on experimentation and texture. I primarily work with acrylic paint and oil pastels, creating expressive compositions that capture raw human emotions and the complexity of lived experiences.

Born and raised in Accra, Ghana, I continue to develop my artistic practice in the same vibrant city. My fascination with art began at a young age, instinctively drawing abstract figures as a child. Over time, these fleeting shapes evolved into bold, dynamic forms that now define my artistic style. My work is deeply rooted in self-expression, pushing boundaries through texture and movement to convey emotions that words often fail to articulate.

To me, art is a vessel for channeling inner thoughts and emotions. It serves as a powerful tool for introspection and communication, allowing me to express both personal and collective narratives. I see art this way because of its ability to transcend language, culture, and time, forging deep connections between the artist and the viewer.

I studied visual art at St. John’s Grammar School, where I honed my technical skills and gained a deeper understanding of artistic expression. This foundation has greatly influenced my journey as an expressionist artist.

Beyond my art, I enjoy football, basketball, cycling, swimming, and music. These activities not only provide balance in my life but also serve as sources of inspiration, influencing the rhythm and energy in my work.
