My name is Emihle Tobi, born on the 23rd of October 2003. I am originally from the Eastern Cape, in Cofimvaba, from a village called Entshingeni. I am currently based in Makhaza, Cape Town, where I continue to grow and express myself as a self-taught visual artist.
I discovered my artistic gift at the age of 10, and since then, art has become a way for me to explore my creativity and shape my identity. My work is deeply inspired by the beauty of nature and the intricate essence of human beings, which I often capture through graphite pencils, ballpoint pens, and paintings.
Living in an environment challenged by drug and alcohol abuse, I have found art to be my sanctuary—a powerful tool to rise above such circumstances and inspire others. My surroundings heavily influence my creations, as I aim to highlight both the struggles and the resilience of the community I come from.
In 2024, I had the privilege of enrolling in the City of Cape Town Emerging Artist Program, which provided me with valuable exposure and opportunities to refine my skills further.
To me, art is more than a passion; it is a purposeful escape and a means to express beauty and evoke change. It is my way of creating a legacy that encourages positivity and celebrates the transformative power of creativity.
