Artistic Vision:

As the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, the villagers of Saga gather on the shore, their faces etched with worry. The once vibrant tapestry of twilight, a time of peace and tranquility, is now shrouded in a sense of foreboding. The lagoon, once a source of life and vitality, now lies still and lifeless, a victim of climate change’s relentless grip. The villagers of Saga, however, refuse to succumb to despair. With a spirit as resilient as the lagoon itself, they join forces, their voices rising in a chorus of determination. They organize clean-up efforts, their hands tirelessly removing the invasive plants, strand by strand. They seek innovative solutions, exploring sustainable methods to combat the hyacinth and restore the lagoon to its former glory.

As the twilight hours descend, casting long shadows across the encroaching hyacinth, a flicker of hope emerges. The villagers of Saga, united in their resolve, stand as a beacon of resilience, determined to reclaim their lagoon and rewrite the narrative of climate change.

Significance and Inspiration : 

This work inspired by artistic immersion visiting the SAGA Community at Epe, going there was like entering another world entirely and the people of Saga are said to be the Ijaw part of Epe. 

And due to the challenges they’re facing, not being able to fish and also navigate around their communities and environments due to the water hyacinth that populated and covered the whole wate, making life difficult for them. So i created this piece when witnessed all this.
